These 33 limiting beliefs are holding you back

Uncategorized Oct 10, 2020

If you’ve been into self development at all you are at least somewhat aware of limiting beliefs. We all have them and they can create all kinds of problems for us. They are often instilled in us during childhood from our parents, schools, community, religion, etc.

What is interesting is that most of us go through life thinking that our beliefs are factual instead of just an opinion or a perspective.

What is really cool is that once you realize that your beliefs aren’t fact (for the most part) then you can start to evaluate them. You will find many of your beliefs are not very helpful for you. They will hold you back from achieving your goals, going after your dreams and living your life free and to the fullest.

For example if you have a dream to open a restaurant but you believe that most restaurants fail and so yours will likely too, then that belief is stopping you from taking action on your dream.

Or maybe you are longing for your life partner but you believe all the good ones are taken. That is a limiting belief that stops you from taking action on finding that special someone. Not only that, because you believe all the good ones are taken you give off a vibe that you are not going to find the right person. Then you continually attract more people that are not the right fit for you because that’s what you are in harmony with.

It can be hard to recognize a limiting belief in yourself…you just think it is true. You think it is fact and so you don’t even notice it as a belief. To help you discover your limiting beliefs I’m giving you a list of 33 limiting beliefs so you can start figuring out what ones you have and then begin to let them go.

Buckle up!

  1. It’s hard to make money
  2. More money more problems
  3. For me to gain someone else has to lose
  4. There is only so much to go around
  5. All the good ones are taken
  6. It’s normal to be sick and tired
  7. I’m too old
  8. I’m not smart enough
  9. I don’t have enough education
  10. I’m afraid of failure
  11. I don’t deserve it
  12. No one listens to me
  13. I’m not loved
  14. I don’t have what it takes
  15. It’s selfish to want more
  16. I can’t…
  17. I can’t afford it
  18. I don’t have enough time
  19. Things work for other people, not for me.
  20. Powerful/successful women can’t find love
  21. You can’t make money doing what you love
  22. It’s all my parents fault
  23. Save a penny, earn a penny
  24. I don’t have a supportive spouse/partner/ family
  25. I have kids so I’m not able too…
  26. Rich people are bad/dishonest/greedy…
  27. Making lots of money means sacrificing who you are
  28. Why does this always happen to me?
  29. Success will separate me from my current friends and family.
  30. Money is the root of all evil
  31. I’m too young
  32. I’m not attractive enough
  33. I’m not worthy

Read through each of those slowly and see which ones you believe are true. Really sit with it. You might at first glance disregard one but if you really think about it you may find that deep down you do believe it.

Maybe you’ll notice that you have said some of these before. Even if we just say things light heartedly sometimes, doesn’t negate the power they have over our thinking. For example, “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” You could be at the store and your child asks for a toy and you say, “No, money doesn’t grow on trees. We can’t afford to always be getting you toys every time we go shopping!” This may seem pretty harmless but it’s a reflection of what you believe to be true…that there is not enough money, there is a limited supply, and you don’t have a very big supply. Not only is saying that reflection of your own beliefs but it’s what you’re programming into your kids.

These beliefs that we have, even though they mostly are not true, is what we create in our life. “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he” - Proverbs 23:7.

So choose your beliefs carefully because they are what create your reality.

When you find a limiting belief that is holding you back and creating a life that you don’t prefer then weed it out and replace it with a new belief that empowers you.

If you have been believing that it is hard to make money, then choose the belief that it is easy to make money and you always have more than you need.

Your mind is so powerful and when you know how to use it you can do remarkable things.
